DisMech.
Human disease mechanisms, written so a steward can check the evidence.
Monarch's pathograph layer. Sniff joins it where Mondo already bridges the dog.
A disorder mechanisms knowledge base, not a clinical guideline and not a patient record.
DisMech (Disorder Mechanisms Knowledge Base) is built by the Monarch Initiative. It holds human
pathophysiology as structured pathographs: mechanisms, HPO phenotypes, genetics, MAXO treatment
annotations, and literature evidence with exact-quote snippets, validated under a LinkML schema.
It mints no new ontology terms. It exports under infores:dismech.
Sniff does not re-host that knowledge base. We do not paraphrase its quotes. We do not turn MAXO annotations into advice for a dog.
The mechanism depth behind the human analog, when Mondo already names the bridge.
When a canine disease page has a Mondo model-of link, and DisMech has a page for that same Mondo id, Sniff deep-links to the mechanism page. The dog disease remains the subject. The human mechanism is about people. The relation is always model-of, never identity.
Join coverage is honest: as of 2026-07-21, 27 of our Mondo-bridged canine disease pages have a verified live DisMech URL. Many OMIA bridges point at subtype Mondo ids that DisMech has not yet page-published at that grain. We omit those rather than invent a parent-term join.
Complementary offer the other direction: Sniff can later contribute spontaneous canine /
veterinary-series evidence into DisMech as MODEL_ORGANISM items, with
verbatim abstract snippets only and human review. That is not live yet. The verbatim bar is load-bearing
(their validator rejects paraphrase).
- Not treatment advice for a dog (MAXO stays human-register).
- Not a claim that dog disease equals human disease.
- Not federation of mechanism narrative into the Sniff KGX bundle (facts-only; INV-54 / INV-67).
- Not an auto-PR into
monarch-initiative/dismech.
DisMech is built and maintained by the Monarch Initiative. Sniff is not affiliated with Monarch. We credit DisMech here, link out on matching disease pages, and keep their evidence discipline (exact quotes, human review) as the bar for any future outbound contribution.
